Title : Ethics and values interwoven in physics teaching, research, and extension for a harmonious world

Abstract:

The world in which we live is full of challenges, evitable wars, poverty, hunger, hatred, divisiveness intolerance, lack of sympathy, corruption, exploitations, colour discrimination, caste discrimination etc,. The reason for all these evils is: I FORGOT HOW I CAME OUT OF MY MOTHER’s lived temple.

Though many have forgotten our mothers the society gives us another chance to purify ourselves through quality education. We start with primary school and  end  up  with quality research in colleges / universities/ research institutes of national importance. Based on our academic performance in higher secondary schools we are streamlined in tertiary education with different subjects.

PHYSICS, according to Britannica is concerned with all aspects of nature on both the macroscopic and submicroscopic levels. The author in his experience as a teacher, researcher and social extension activist found Physics as a subject which promoted EMOTIONAL STABILITY in life. Emotional stability is the capacity to  maintain  a consistent, balanced, and calm demeanour, even when facing stress, adversity, or negative stimuli. One might wonder how the  author mixes Psychology with Physics? Physics is one of the best subjects which is interwoven with values and ethics for life which paves way for a harmonious living along with nature and fellow humans. Physics seems to be a singled out basic science subject but it is TRANSDISCIPLINARY subject beyond ordinary comprehension.

In this presentation/paper the author illustrates with examples how Physics teaching, research and extension program promotes emotional stability in the learners and practitioners of Physics in tertiary education.
