Title : Global photochemical model CHARM-DE of the Earth’s atmosphere for altitudes 0-130 km

Abstract:

A numerical photochemical global non-stationary model CHARM-DE (Chemical Atmospheric Research Model with D and E regions). The model is a development of the basic version CHARM /1/, which describes the chemistry of neutral constituents. The new model describes the interaction of 127 neutral (ozone and other constituents) and charged chemical species (including electron concentration), participating in 250 photochemical reactions. The model covers the altitude range from the Earth’s surface up to 130 km, which includes the D and E regions of the ionosphere. Ionization is caused by galactic cosmic rays and solar ultraviolet radiation at the wavelength of the solar Lyman-alpha emission. Spatial resolution: 10° in latitude, 5° in longitude. Vertical resolution is 1 km. Time step is 10 minutes. Results of calculations for quiet (undisturbed) conditions are presented.
