Title : New era of emerging technologies for heathcare systems

Abstract:

Recently, medical and healthcare systems have gained interest of many researchers in the field. Among emerging technologies we cite Internet of Things (IoT) at the top of the list, by achieving good performances with the ushering of the Medicine 4.0. In fact, the healthcare industry is taking advantage of the IoT components, which are resumed to sensing nodes, data gathering elements, data processing/storage mecanisms and lately data analysis and trend predictions.

In this context, the use of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) drives the innovation of new concepts and approches describing the manner to design the appropriate automated network. This aims to provide an efficient and performant mecanism to connect the medical objects, to centralize the data processing for real-time update, notification and to ease the delivery of good interpretations by the medical staff. Furthermore, several communication protocols are introduced/appealed to mitigate the latency between the sensing nodes and the microprocessing unit. To fulfill this requirement, good transmission could be guaranteed by performing the edge computation so as to process data locally in the networks, which results in less power consumption for computational ressources. Besides, Fog/Cloud and Big Data capabilities have gained concerns of the scientific community by discussing the implication of Software Defined Networks, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in newly healthcare systems and by identifying potential research directions. Another challenge should be evoked is the security and privacy in healthcare systems. Up to date, the security issues are not governed by a standard. At present, a set of recently published papers present blockchain-based approches to secure the authentication. In fact, blockchain is improving privacy features and data management of healthcare IoT-based systems. Least but not last, towards the digitalisation of healthcare industries, the Digital Twin starts to take place to ease simulations in realistic healthcare scenarios.

To resume, this talk will cover recent technological and scientific advances in the field of healthcare detection and monitoring. It will introduce an overview of latest improvements and investigations in IoT-based monitoring systems. Relevant key factors to consider will be discussed by citing challenges and major issues to be overcome for each scenario.
