Metrology

Metrology

Metrology is the science of measurement standards and accuracy. It defines the units of measurement and ensures consistency and traceability across scientific and industrial systems. In physics, metrology provides the reference framework that allows experiments to be compared worldwide. Modern metrology is based on fundamental physical constants rather than artifact standards. This shift has increased measurement precision and stability. Metrology supports advanced research in quantum physics, nanotechnology, and fundamental constants. National and international metrology institutes maintain primary standards and calibration services. Metrology is essential for precision engineering, manufacturing, and scientific innovation. Without metrology, reliable measurement, technological interoperability, and experimental verification would not be possible. It forms the backbone of all quantitative science.
