Optical Cavities

Optical Cavities

Optical Cavities are specialized resonant structures formed by mirrors or reflective boundaries that trap light. They are used to sustain and amplify electromagnetic waves in lasers and optical experiments. Optical cavities enhance coherence and allow selective amplification of specific modes. They are essential in laser physics, cavity quantum electrodynamics, and precision measurement. Optical cavities improve light–matter coupling, enabling studies of fundamental quantum phenomena. They are also used in optical clocks and frequency standards. The design of optical cavities focuses on stability, loss reduction, and mode control. Optical cavities are indispensable tools in both applied optics and advanced physics research.
